Description:
The Markazus Sahabah is a nonprofit organization tasked with providing basic Islamic education in theory and practice. The center’s mission is to provide Islamic education based on the Qur’an and Sunnah, as well as teaching moral and value principles to help students become better Americans. The center looks through the lens of raising children and communities to be modest and morally productive to humanity, in according to the teaching of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) . In light of this, and as part of the center’s restructuring, The Markazus Sahabah is looking for qualified candidates to fill the position of Board of Directors. The center is looking for nominations or applications from people interested in serving on its board of directors.
Board of Directors Responsibilities:
- Support Markazus Sahabah’s mission and vision by providing all necessary assistance in achieving its goals.
- Should have a goal setting, policymaking, and strategic planning mindset.
- Ensure compliance with legal and financial reporting requirements, as well as adherence to core board roles and responsibilities as stated in the organization’s bylaws.
- Assist in developing an annual budget and providing proper financial oversight.
- Participate in the overall planning process and help with the plan’s implementation and monitoring.
- Increasing the board’s strength through recruitment, training, self-assessment, and board education.
- Determine, monitor, and strengthen the organization’s programs and services while ensuring that they are in line with the mission of the organization.
- Choose volunteer leaders who represent the organization.
- Assist in identifying and developing potential future leaders for the organization.
- Monitor and improve the center’s programs and services.
- Improve the center’s public image by clearly communicating to the public the organization’s mission, accomplishments, and goals.
Required Qualification
- Commitment to Markazus Sahabah’s mission and vision.
- Has a vision that is adaptable to changing circumstances.
- Sensitive to the communities to which their organizations belong.
- Highly regarded and respected by others and or/influential members of the organization and/or community.
- Able to strengthen the organization because of the expertise they bring from their business or professional background.
- Adds diversity to the mix of individuals comprising the Board, including age, gender, race, background, expertise, etc.
- Develop and maintain productive and positive relationships with the community and outside stakeholders that are of interest to the center
- Serve on relevant committees and ability to collaborate with other members in executing tasks that promote the development of the school and communities around it.
- Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and experience in or the potential for building an equitable and diverse community according to the vision and mission of the center.
- An expert specific to the organization’s field, donor committed to the cause, or community leader able to attract support.
- Stay informed, available all the time when needed, and engaged; willing to attend meetings and represent the organization or its interests at community events and willing to help bring in necessary resources.
- Conscientious steward, who is as interested in developing the organization and monitoring its health as they are in promoting its programs.
- Perform other duties as required.
